Cairns IRIS

Any other old thermal camera discussions.
Old cameras from Agema, Insight Vision, ISG, FLIR, Raytheon, ISI, Bullard, MSA ....
There was quite a bit in common so care and spares might be common

Cairns IRIS

Post by John_G_UK »

Does anyone have a service manual for the Cairns IRIS helmet cam? A long shot I know as they were almost exclusively US market items.

All I know is that Cairns IRIS was a UK product using the GEC-Plessey 100x100 PZT array out of Caswell (sensor) / Basildon (camera). It is a chopped sensor, not sure if that one used 'microscan' or not.

A few comments about them on Firehouse in 2007 at http://www.firehouse.com/forums/t87211/
You could try ISG as Dave Little was saying they would have had a go at repairs back then so might know !

Thanks for the link Fraser, two items of particular interest there:

Page 19 shows a 4-aperture chopper as used in the GMEO systems.

On page 24 the 256x128 PZT sensor from the 'Lion' is one referred to as used in the early version of the Argus 2, http://www.fire-tics.co.uk/A2.htm.
